FURTHER LEGAL ASSISTANCE

In some situations, YELC can refer you to a lawyer who has agreed to assist YELC by offering discount legal fees (on a cost recovery basis) to approved applicants. All assistance will be offered on a retainer basis and subject to the conditions contained the firms cost agreement.

Legal Representation

We will refer people for assistance in court proceedings in very limited situations. Generally, our assistance firms will only offer legal representation within the Sydney-metro area, and where:

• The client has a legal problem that falls within the ambit of our services and can demonstrate that alternative assistance is unavailable, and s/he cannot afford to pay the full costs of a lawyer.
• The problems experienced by the client are, or are likely to be, experienced by others in the community.
• Assisting the client may lead to benefits for others in the community, especially those that are considered to be disadvantaged.
• If the matter were to proceed in court, that there is a reasonable likelihood of success.
• They has sufficient resources to conduct the matter.
• They have solicitors with sufficient time and the expertise to conduct the matter.
