FURTHER LEGAL ASSISTANCE

In some situations, people can receive further legal assistance from YELC such as written advice, help with the preparation of court documents, reporting the matter to a regulatory body and drafting letters to the other parties of a dispute.

Further assistance will only be made available to applicants who meet our eligibility criteria. However, YELC may decide to assist those who fail to meet some of the criteria depending upon the circumstances of the case.

All assistance will be offered on a retainer basis and subject to the conditions contained in our cost agreement.

Costs for Professional Services

If you require and meet our criteria, for further assistance, the following charges will apply:

YELC Lawyer

Paralegal

Please note that YELC services are billed on a cost recovery basis.

Legal Representation

YELC will represent people in court proceedings in very limited situations. Generally, YELC will only offer legal representation within the Sydney-metro area, and where:

  • The client has a legal problem that falls within the ambit of our services and can demonstrate that alternative assistance is unavailable, and s/he cannot afford to pay the full costs of a lawyer.
  • The problems experienced by the client are, or are likely to be, experienced by others in the community.
  • Assisting the client may lead to benefits for others in the community, especially those that are considered to be disadvantaged.
  • If the matter were to proceed in court, that there is a reasonable likelihood of success.
  • YELC has sufficient resources to conduct the matter.
  • YELC solicitors have sufficient time and the expertise to conduct the matter.
